Bartlet Sher's Tony Award-winning revival of of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic 1949 musical South Pacific, playing at the Barbican until 1 October 2011, could sail into the West End after its national tour if rumours in today's Daily Mail are to be believed.

The Mail's Baz Bamigboye reports that there is now "serious talk" about bringing the show, fronted by EastEnders' Samantha Womack and Brazilian baritone Paulo Szot, into the West End. No theatre is suggested as a berth for the Lincoln Center show.

The iconic show, which tells the love story between French Plantation Owner Emile de Becque and nurse Nellie Forbush, includes Rodgers & Hammerstein classics such as "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair" and "Some Enchanted Evening".

The production opened at the Barbican on 23 August 2011 (previews from 15 August) and will tour to Milton Keynes, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Oxford, Southampton, Birmingham, Stoke, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Sunderland.
