Suranne Jones

Suranne Jones is one of Britain’s leading actresses, known for playing dynamic and gripping roles. She has recently completed filming the third series of BBC One’s acclaimed drama Vigil, reprising her role as DCI Amy Silva. The new series sees Amy and DS Kirsten Longacre, played by Rose Leslie, travel to a remote Arctic research station, where they investigate the death of a member of a covert British special forces mission. Suranne is also set to reprise her BAFTA-winning role as Dr Gemma Foster in the third and final series of BBC One’s Doctor Foster. The series will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Suranne most recently starred in Frauds, the ITV six-part heist drama alongside Jodie Whittaker, which she co-created and executive-produced with Anne-Marie O’Connor. The series premiered in October 2025. She also appeared in Film Club, the BBC Three mini-series written by and starring Aimee Lou Wood.

August 2025, Suranne both starred in and executive-produced the five-part Netflix series Hostage, portraying Abigail Dalton, a newly elected British Prime Minister who finds herself at odds with Vivienne Toussaint, France’s first female president, played by Julie Delpy.

In 2023, Suranne co-produced and starred in ITV’s drama series Maryland alongside Eve Best, which follows two sisters reunited by the tragic loss of their mother. She also reprised her role as DCI Amy Silva in the second series of Vigil. The first series of the BBC drama was the highest-rated new drama launch across all UK channels since 2018.

Suranne has made a name for herself playing strong and complex women. In 2022, she starred as Carole McKay in Sky’s Christmas Carole, a modern twist on the Dickens classic, in which a wealthy entrepreneur is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

In 2020, Suranne starred as Anne Lister, a pioneering 19th-century landowner, in the BBC and HBO historical drama Gentleman Jack. The series follows Lister as she defies social conventions and embarks on a relationship with Ann Walker. The series was nominated for Drama Series at the 2020 BAFTA Television Awards, while Suranne received a Leading Actress nomination for her performance as Anne Lister.

In 2015, Suranne starred as Dr Gemma Foster in Doctor Foster, the BBC One psychological drama about a GP whose life begins to unravel when she suspects her husband is having an affair. Suranne won the 2016 BAFTA for Leading Actress for her performance, and the series was a major ratings success, with its first series averaging 8.2 million viewers and its finale attracting a consolidated audience of 10.1 million.

Alongside her acting career, Suranne has established herself as a producer, developing and executive producing a growing slate of original projects through her production company, TeamAkers. Her producing credits include Doctor Foster, Scott & Bailey, Gentleman Jack, Maryland, Hostage and Frauds, reflecting her commitment to developing distinctive, character-led stories both on and off screen.

Other television credits include Save Me opposite Lennie James and Stephen Graham for Sky Atlantic, Vanity Fair for ITV and Amazon, The Brian Pern Show, BBC’s The Crimson Field, Lawless, Touch of Cloth, Doctor Who, Unforgiven and Coronation Street.

Suranne’s theatre credits include Top Girls at Chichester Festival Theatre and in the West End, A Few Good Men at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (for which she received the Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress), Blithe Spirit and Terms of Endearment. She played the role of Sandra in the 20th anniversary West End revival of Beautiful Thing at the Arts Theatre, as well as the title role in Orlando at the Royal Exchange in 2014.
