The Embroidery Girl

About the Show

The Embroidery girl is a dance work incorporating Ballet and Chinese Folk Dance, set during the later Qing Dynasty ( 1870-1930). The story is adapted from the true life experiences of two embroidery masters Shen Shou and Yang Shou-yu. The dance vividly illustrates the threading and sewing on stage via beautiful dance choreography. The drama has rich content by interweaving antiquated Chinese customs, such as matchmaking, concubinage, and child marriage.

The production has original music by Zou Hang, a composer known for his work ‘Starlight’ played at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The creative team also includes highly-esteemed artists: Zhang Ming ( chief choreographer), Zhang Jiawen ( stage design), Li Ruiding ( costume design) . With Chinese dance superstar Zhang Yashu and a top male ballerina Xu Peng in the starring roles, you’re in for an astounding and phenomenal night.
