Emerson String Quartet – Shostakovich Cycle

About the Show

Over three nights, the ensemble perform a cycle of Shostakovich’s quartets, which contain some of the composer’s most personal music. His quartets are often thought to make up virtually a musical autobiography and are full of contrasts: joy and anguish, folk melodies and angular modernism, tenderness and violence.
