Will Chichester Sweeney Cut it in the West End???

It will hardly be the biggest surprise in theatreland when the Chichester Festival Theatre revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, announces a West End transfer. The big questions are when and where. Well, Whatsonstage.com has learnt that producers are hoping to bring it to town in February/March 2012, and that the likely destination is the Adelphi (where One Man, Two Guvnors runs from 8 November to 25 February).

But whenever, and wherever, the production lands it’ll be a welcome return to the West End for Whatsonstage.com Award-winner and perennial audience favourite Michael Ball. And it’s safe to say that his new role as the demon barber of Fleet Street could hardly be further removed from big-hearted (and chested) Edna Turnblad!
