The Comedy About Spies has picked up the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play!

The Award was voted for by theatre fans as the WhatsOnStage Awards continue to be the largest fan-voted awards. Now in their 26th year, the award ceremony took place at The London Palladium. It marks Mischief Theatre’s second win following their hit The Play That Goes Wrong.

As one of their newest comedy capers, The Comedy About Spies premiered at the Noël Coward Theatre last spring, where our critic commented: “This is clearly going to be an enormous popular hit.”

Set in 1960s London, the farcical comedy involves spies from the CIA and KGB converging at a London hotel in pursuit of a rogue British agent and a stolen top-secret file. The plot thickens with the arrival of a British couple and an actor auditioning for the role of James Bond.

Excitingly, news of the show’s return was revealed exclusively live on stage!

The piece is written by original Mischief company members Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, who both starred alongside Mischief’s Dave HearnChris Leask, Charlie Russell, Greg Tannahill and Nancy Zamit, with Adele James, who made her debut with the group.

The production was recorded in the West End, with release plans yet to be confirmed.
