Local theatre company Spike Theatre follow up their recent tour of the hit show The Games with a new dark adaptation of Charles Dickens classic christmas ghost story – A Christmas Carol. This new piece of work will celebrate Dickens 200th anniversary year and Spike Theatres 15th year of creating theatre.
The plot follows Scrooge, London’s most notorious miser, a man so mean he begrudges his staff a day off, even at Christmas. Then everything changes when he is visited by the Christmas Spirits – Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future he is forced to confront his past and a haunting vision of his future.
But all of these traditional elements come with a few new touches as Spike’s Christmas Carol features an original music score, puppetry, shadow play, folio sound, bold storytelling and a lot of swapping hats!
A Christmas Carol is the company’s 5th Christmas show, following Alladin, Figgy Hobbin and The Goblin King, Danny The Champion of The World and Beasts and Beauties.
This new version of an old classic is billed as definitely not be one for the children.
A Christmas Carol is at the Lantern Theatre in Liverpool from 1 – 10 December.
