The Encounter, Simon McBurney's aural piece inspired by the book Amazon Beaming by Petru Popescu, is to be made into a film.

According to Screen Daily, Kevin Macdonald, who is also the director of recent documentary Whitney, is lined up to direct the piece which will be made by Film4.

The piece originally opened in 2015 and has since toured the UK and internationally, returning to the Barbican earlier this year.

The Encounter is the true story of photographer Lorne McIntyre who journeyed to remote parts of Brazil and met the cat people of the Javari Valley. The Encounter starred McBurney and used a high-tech sound and projection design. It garnered five star reviews across the board including one from WhatsOnStage for its run at the Barbican.
