Rhys Ifans is to return to the Old Vic later this year in the upcoming production of Joe Penhall's Mood Music.

Directed by Roger Michell, the show is set in a London recording studio following a songwriter, her producers, their lawyers and psychotherapists, who all battle over ownership of a tune. In the piece Ifans will play Bernard, a producer. Further casting is yet to be announced.

The world premiere is the fourth in the Old Vic's bicentenary season, which also includes Alan Ayckbourn's The Divide, new musical Sylvia, an adaptation of Fanny & Alexander and A Monster Calls.

Ifans' previous credits include King Lear (Old Vic), Protest Song (National Theatre) and Don Juan in Soho (Donmar Warehouse). After his run in Mood Music Ifans will star in Exit the King at the National Theatre in July.

Mood Music runs at the Old Vic from 2 May to 16 June with previews from 21 April.
