Olivia Hallinan chats about Lotty's War

What attracted you to the play?

The subject matter, the story and the characters. It is a period that not a lot of people know about, so it was fascinating to me to be able to tell this story.

Tell us about your character?

She is a free spirited Guernsey girl, who has to grow up very quickly when her father is killed in the bombing and Guernsey is taken over. She is feisty and stubborn but has a very kind heart.

What is your favourite scene?

The opening scene with Ben is fun and idyllic, before the play gets a little darker. I get to play with the innocence of youth and have a bit of a dance, which is always fun.

Why should audiences see it?

It is a thriller, it is a lover story, it is informative, all while being a visual and emotional treat.

What do you like about touring?

I like to see new venues and pay to such diverse and different audiences. Travelling to different parts of the country, that I might not normally see, is a treat.

Lotty's War is at the Manchester Opera House from 2 – 4 October.
