It’s penned by Todrick Hall

A new musical titled Midnight will be performed publicly for the first time next month.
Presented in workshop form by Todrick Hall, the piece is set in America’s South during the 19th century and is described as “a sweeping story of love, conflict, and the search for understanding.”
The sung-through musical has received two closed-door showings in London and New York before this engagement.
As well as writing the music and lyrics, Hall will also direct and choreograph. He’s joined by assistant director Charlotte Jaconelli, lighting designer Rory Beaton, sound designer Sound Quiet Time, musical supervisor Mark Crossland, co-musical supervisor Caitlin Morgan, co-musical director and conductor Marcus Carter-Adams, casting director Harry Blumenau, casting associate Laura Seaborn, dance captain Jenni Thomasson, and assistant dance captains India Thornton and Kamilla Fernandes.
Hall also takes on the role of Rail, alongside Jeremy Beloate as Richard, Charlotte Odusanya as Lily Rose, Ailsa Davidson as Scarlet, Jaconelli as Violet, Georgina Onuorah as Happy, Barney Wilkinson as Harry, Ashlee Irish as Clyde, Jill Marie Cooper as Charlotte, Watkins Smith Jr as Billy, Craig Armstrong as Sylvester, and Brandon Lee Sears as Rehearsal Rail.
In the ensemble will be Callum Bell, Callum Macdonald, Christian Knight, Cruz-Troy Hunter, Elly Jay, Elizabeth Armstrong, Hollie-Ann Lowe, India Thornton, Jaime Taite, Jenni Thomasson, Joel Benjamin, Kamilla Fernandes, Lewis Mortier, Lizzy Rose Esin Kelly, Marlee Jay, Michael Anderson, Milan Cacacie, Oliver Adam Reynolds, Takaiyah Bailey, Theo Reece, and Zarina Thompson.
Hall commented: “Midnight is an artistic work with a strong sense of social responsibility and cultural depth. It uses artistic means to call on people to cross racial boundaries, learn to understand, tolerate and empathise.”
Midnight’s production team includes co-executive producers Hall and Caryn Sterling, general manager Emily Obasohan, production manager Toby P Darvill, company manager Adam Cox, company stage manager Alix Henry, deputy stage manager Jade Hunter, and assistant stage managers Miranda Larsson and Ben Turnbull.
The workshop presentation will play for seven performances only at Sadler’s Wells East from 11 to 15 November 2025.
