The singer’s 1995 album features the songs “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic”
Alanis Morrissette's 1995 album Jagged Little Pill is being turned into a musical which will premiere in the US next year.
The musical will have a book by Diablo Cody (Juno) and will be directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland).
Jagged Little Pill features the singles "Ironic", "You Oughta Know" and "Hand In My Pocket", and reached number one in the UK Album Charts, as well as being named in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Tom Kitt (American Idiot) will provide the orchestral arrangements and arrangements for the musical version.
Morissette previously told Billboard that the musical will be "a fictionalized story and we'll add songs and change lyrics".
It will be produced by Vivek J Tiwary, Arvind Ethan David and Eva Price, and open at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts in May 2018.
On the announcement of the musical, Morissette said: "This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical theatre dream come true.
"The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honoured to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent.
"Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul's marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom and complexity."
