Martin Shaw, Maureen Lipman and Jeff Fahey are among the cast in the new revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man, which opens at the Playhouse Theatre in the West End.

Directed by Simon Evans (The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui), the piece follows the run-up to a US election, and the tug-of-war happening behind the scenes to get candidates ready.

Vidal's piece debuted over 50 years ago, and was nominated for six Tony Awards and was adapted into a film in 1964, with the same name. It toured extensively last year, with Shaw also in the lead role.

The Best Man runs at the Playhouse in London from 6 March to 12 May with previews from now.
