The show is based on Sigmund Neuberger, also known as The Great Lafayette

A work in progress performance of Lafayette: A New Musical will be seen at the Studio Theatre in Edinburgh on 9 May at 7.30pm.
The production, presented by Helen Milne Productions, is supported by Capital Theatres and Creative Scotland. It is written by John Binnie, with music and lyrics by Richard Ferguson, and illusion and puppetry design by Fergus Dunnet.
The musical is inspired by the life of Sigmund Neuberger, also known as The Great Lafayette. On 9 May 1911, while performing at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre, then called the Empire Palace Theatre, he died in a fire that broke out on stage. The new piece is set to be shared 115 years later on a neighbouring stage.
The work explores his life and career, focusing on the personal cost of success and the idea of legacy, using illusion within the storytelling.
The 9 May presentation offers an opportunity to see the musical in development. A question and answer session with the cast and creative team will follow the performance.
