Josh O’Connor to lead a revival of Golden Boy at the Almeida

Josh O’Connor will return to the stage next year.

The award-winning performer is set to star in a revival of Golden Boy at the Almeida.

Sam Yates will direct Clifford Odet’s American classic, which forms part of the Almeida’s newly announced season. You can read more about that here.

Set in 1930s New York at the height of the depression, the play follows gifted young violinist Joe Bonaparte, who finds himself lured into the brutal world of professional boxing.

The drama will feature a live string quartet and explore “ambition, identity, and the high price of success.”

Golden Boy will play in London from 8 September to 31 October 2026.
