The WhatsOnStage Award-winning supernatural thriller 2:22 A Ghost Story has unveiled casting for its latest season.

The play, written by award-winning writer Danny Robins and directed by Matthew Dunster, has received solid reviews and been a hit with audiences since its premiere in 2021 at the Noël Coward Theatre. The production will begin its 18-week season on 14 May 2023, making it the sixth season of the play overall.

2:22 A Ghost Story tells the story of Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam is skeptical. Alongside a couple of friends they agree to stay up until 2:22 am – a time that she believes to be pivotal for spooky goings-on.

The production has enjoyed a successful run at the Gielgud Theatre, the Criterion, and the Lyric Theatre. According to producers, this fifth move breaks a record for most venues played by the same show – with three Shaftesbury Avenue houses now occupied during the piece’s life.

Set to appear at the Apollo Theatre will be Clifford Samuel (Boudica) as Sam, Jaime Winstone (Kidulthood) as Jenny, One Tree Hill‘s Sophia Bush as Lauren and Ricky Champ (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Ben.

Bush said today: “I am elated to be joining this wonderful cast in 2:22 A Ghost Story! For this revered production to be my West End debut is a dream come true for me. One that I can’t wait to share with live audiences in the UK. We’re deep in rehearsals now and there is just nothing like the energy and comradery of the theatre community. Diving into this rich material is a thrill; exploring these complex relationships, and what makes each of our characters tick. The clear vision from our creative team led by Danny, Matthew, and Gabe serves as a bright North Star. I’m honoured to be welcomed into this family with open arms as I bring my version of ‘Lauren’ to life.”

The current cast (composed of Cheryl, Scott Karim, Louise Ford and Jake Wood) at the Lyric Theatre will perform until 23 April before the transfer to the Apollo Theatre.

The play features set design by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Cindy Lin, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph Sound, illusions by Chris Fisher, and casting by Matilda James.

The production will also embark on a UK wide tour beginning at the Theatre Royal Bath in September 2023 and continuing through to May 2024. Cast for the touring production is also to be announced.
