The play, written by award-winning writer Danny Robins and directed by Matthew Dunster, has received solid reviews and been a hit with audiences since its premiere in 2021 at the Noël Coward Theatre. The production will begin its 18-week season on 14 May 2023, making it the sixth season of the play overall.
2:22 A Ghost Story tells the story of Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam is skeptical. Alongside a couple of friends they agree to stay up until 2:22 am – a time that she believes to be pivotal for spooky goings-on.
The production has enjoyed a successful run at the Gielgud Theatre, the Criterion, and the Lyric Theatre. According to producers, this fifth move breaks a record for most venues played by the same show – with three Shaftesbury Avenue houses now occupied during the piece’s life. §§
The current cast (composed of Cheryl, Scott Karim, Louise Ford and Jake Wood) at the Lyric Theatre will perform until 23 April before the transfer to the Apollo Theatre. The cast for the transfe will be announced soon.
Robins expressed his excitement for the continued success of the production: “It blows my mind that we have been on this incredible journey of what is now a record-breaking five transfers and six seasons! I’m just delighted to see the continued appetite for my play. The amazing audience reactions, coupled with one outstanding cast after another, have catapulted it into bonafide long-runner territory, and I can’t wait to see who’ll pick up the mantle in this next iteration. Watch this space and prepare to be deeply spooked!”
The play features set design by Anna Fleischle, costume design by Cindy Lin, lighting design by Lucy Carter, sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph Sound, illusions by Chris Fisher, and casting by Matilda James.
The production will also embark on a UK wide tour beginning at the Theatre Royal Bath in September 2023 and continuing through to May 2024. Cast for the touring production is also to be announced.
