Last night saw the return of East is East to the London stage as part of Jamie Lloyd's second season at Trafalgar Studios.
The play, which premiered at the Royal Court in 1997 and was subsequently adapted into a hit film, centres on mixed-ethnicity household in 1970s Salford. It was successfully adapted for the screen in 1999 with a cast including Linda Bassett and Jimi Mistry.
The revival stars the play's author Ayub Khan-Din as George 'Genghis' Khan, with Jane Horrocks as his long-suffering wife Ella.
After finishing its London run on 3 January 2015, it will tour to the New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham (14-17 January), Richmond Theatre (19-24 January) and the Manchester Opera House (26-31 January).
