The musical is based on David Baddiel’s best-selling children’s novel
The new musical AniMalcolm, based on David Baddiel's hit children's novel of the same name, will embark on a UK tour in 2019.
First premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018 and produced by Story Pocket Theatre, the show will tour to 35 venues, beginning at McMillan Theatre in Somerset in February 2019. The piece follows Malcolm, who dislikes animals yet can't get away from them.
Comedian, author, presenter and screenwriter Baddiel has written four children's' books, so far selling over one million copies. His stand-up show, My Family: Not the Sitcom, first premiered at the Menier Chocolate Factory before running for 15 weeks in the West End.
Baddiel said: "It has been such a thrill to see AniMalcolm brought to life on stage, and as a musical! Story Pocket have done a wonderful job with this adaptation, and it will be a real treat to see Malcolm adventuring around the UK with his menagerie of animals in tow."
AniMalcolm is directed by Julia Black and Adam Fletcher-Forde with musical direction by David Perkins, set and costume design by Jacqueline Trousdale, lighting design by Declan Randall and movement direction by Shona Morris.
