The Old Vic has now confirmed dates for the previously announced world premiere of Ella Hickson’s Oedipus, starring Academy Award winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, No Time To Die) and Indira Varma (Present Laughter, Game of Thrones).

Based on Sophocles’ play from c. 429 BC, this adaptation by Old Vic associate artist Ella Hickson will be co-directed by Matthew Warchus and Hofesh Shechter in a strictly limited run in 2025.

Oedipus is set to run at the Old Vic from 21 January until 29 March 2025, with a press night scheduled for 4 February.

A separate production of Oedipus, led by Mark Strong (A View from the Bridge) and Lesley Manville (The Crown) and adapted by Robert Icke, will precede it, playing at Wyndham’s Theatre from 4 October 2024 to 5 January 2025.

Further casting and creative team information for the Old Vic staging will be announced in due course.
