The WhatsOnStage Award-winning play heads for the screen
Award-winning performer Cynthia Erivo will star in and executively produce a film adaptation of Suzie Miller’s award-winning play Prima Facie.
Currently seen on Broadway starring Jodie Comer, the film is set to follow a highly successful barrister whose life is derailed by an experience involving sexual assault. Produced on stage by Empire Street Productions, WhatsOnStage’s Sarah Crompton labelled the show “an unforgettable moment of theatre”.
Comer’s win at the WhatsOnStage Awards earlier this year came ahead of her Broadway debut – the show beginning performances on 11 April at the 800-seat Golden Theatre. Comer was nominated for a Tony Award for her turn.
BAFTA winner Susanna White (Star Wars: Andor) will direct. Miller will adapt her own stage play, first seen in Australia in 2020 for the screen.
Erivo is currently filming the movie adaptation of Wicked, which is due to be released next Christmas.
