The major revival joins a UK premiere!
Curve has revealed three new productions for 2025 and into 2026.
The Leicester theatre will present a rehearsed reading, a UK premiere and launch a tour of a major revival.
To start, as part of Curve’s Black History Month programme, there will be a rehearsed reading of Purlie Victorious. Ossie Davis’ satire will be presented in partnership with Curve Associate Company Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage from 30 October to 1 November 2025. The comedy uses humour to meet racism head-on and celebrate the strength of a community standing up for what’s right. It is sponsored by Leicester-based music licensing company PPL PRS.
Inside American Pie will then make its UK premiere in Leicester. The docu-concert experience reveals the stories behind Don McLean’s groundbreaking song. Written to commemorate the 1959 plane crash that took the lives of American musical icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper, the song about “the day the music died” is filled with references to world-changing events in 20th-century history.
Direct from Harmony House in Hunter River, Prince Edward Island, Mike Ross and a band of Island musicians unlock the mysteries behind the classic song, with a setlist that includes tunes by Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles. Inside American Pie is a Mirvish, Harmony House, and Made at Curve co-production and will play from 26 February to 14 March 2026.
Finally, Kander and Ebb’s hit Broadway musical Kiss of the Spider Woman will receive its first major UK revival since 1992. Based on Manuel Puig’s novel and adapted for the stage by Terrence McNally, a new film adaptation of the musical, starring Jennifer Lopez, will be released later this year.
Lead casting for the revival, directed by Paul Foster, has also been revealed alongside the creative team.
A Made at Curve, Bristol Old Vic and Mayflower Southampton co-production, the show will visit all three cities on a short tour.
In addition, Curve has announced details of a new musical by Rob Madge and Pippa Cleary that is currently in development. You can read more about that here.
