Claire Sweeney stars in a new comedy with songs, with plans for it tour – following the Liverpool run.
Next month the Royal Court Liverpool will be co-producing a brand new comedy written by and starring Claire Sweeney and Mandy Muden.
Sex And The Suburbs is a described as a show 'for anyone who has ever been in a relationship.' It also features hit songs including "I’m Every Woman", "I Want To Break Free" and "Somebody Else’s Guy."
Mandy Muden stars as Penny Crowe, host of a late-night radio phone in and Britain’s leading Agony Aunt. Claire Sweeney is her co-host Willow Wallace and together they take calls about every date from hell and the occasional one from heaven.
Along with their producer, Rory Reynolds (played by Carl Patrick) they are more than happy to dish out relationship advice but less happy to take it!
The show is based on true stories from real women and all of the parts are played by the three actors. Ken Alexander directs the show which is a co-production with London producer Jamie Wilson. The show will make its debut in Liverpool with plans to tour in the future.
Claire Sweeney is looking forward to the show: "It’s a great show for men and women and it targets a mix of ages so there is something for everyone. We’ve got an older woman trying to find a man, and then a younger woman going on a date and meeting a guy who doesn’t take his head out of his mobile phone. It’s a bit rude but funny, tongue in cheek."
Sex and the Suburbs is at Liverpool's Royal Court from 9 May – 7 June.
