Casting has been revealed for the new production of The Mikado at Wilton’s Music Hall and on tour.

Sasha Regan, renowned for her critically acclaimed all-male productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classics such as H.M.S. Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance, is set to return to the venue (the world’s only surviving Grand Music Hall), from Wednesday, 7 June to Saturday, 1 July.

In a new twist, the storyline is transposed to an all-boys school in 1950s England. Famed tunes in the piece include “A Wand’ring Minstrel I,” “Behold the Lord High Executioner,” and “Three Little Maids from School Are We.”

Declan Egan will take on the role of Bertie Hugh, with Sam Kipling portraying Miss Violet Plumb. Lewis Kennedy has been cast as Mikado, and David McKechnie will portray Mr Cocoa. Other cast members include George Dawes as Wilfred Lush, Aidan Nightingale as Albert Barr, Owen Clayton as Lily Tring, Richard Russell Edwards as Hebe Flo, and Christopher Hewitt as Kitty Shaw. Supporting the main cast, the ensemble will consist of Harry Cooper-Millar, Oliver Bradley-Taylor, Patrick Cook, Struan Davidson, Francisco Gomes, Elliot Akeister, and Shane Antony-Whitely.

After its run at Wilton’s Music Hall, The Mikado will embark on a tour. The schedule includes Theatre Royal Winchester from 3 to 8 July, Theatre Royal Bath from 10 to 15 July, and Hall for Cornwall from 20 to 22 July.

Regan’s inspiration to transform these beloved classics into all-male productions comes from her own experience performing Gilbert and Sullivan at a single-sex school. Her shows are renowned for their unique humor and the fresh perspective they bring to these timeless works.
