Casting announced for Alan Ayckbourn's The Divide

The two-part play will have its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival

Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Alan Ayckbourn's The Divide.

Clare Burt (London Road, Flowers for Mrs Harris) will be joined by Sophie Melville (Iphigenia in Splott), Sian Thomas (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) and Finty Williams (Cranford).

The cast is completed by Jake Davies, Erin Doherty, Thusitha Jayasundera, Richard Katz, Clare Lawrence Moody, Weruche Opia, Martin Quinn and Letty Thomas.

The Divide is a new work by the playwright which runs at over five hours and will be performed in two parts at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh in August, before opening at The Old Vic in January as part of its bicentennial season. The piece is a satirical love story set in England 100 years in the future in the aftermath of a devastating plague. It will be directed by The Old Vic's associate director Annabel Bolton.

The Divide runs at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh from 8 to 20 August, and at the Old Vic from 30 January to 10 February 2018.
