According to a report in BBC news, the double-decker bus crashed into the much-loved off-West End venue at 8am. Six people have been taken to hospital with a number treated at the scene.

Southwark Playhouse Borough is one of the most eminent theatre venues in London, having hosted shows including Operation Mincemeat and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button during early runs.

The venue issued a release today, saying: “At 08:06 GMT this morning a bus hit into the window frontage of Southwark Playhouse Borough after a collision on Newington Causeway.

“Our venue was closed at the time and no members of Southwark Playhouse staff were present or injured.

“We can confirm that both of our venues will be open and operating as normal this evening.

“Our thoughts are with those injured in the collision and we wish them speedy recoveries.”

As reported by the BBC, the incident occurred when two busses collided and one then hit the theatre. According to police, none of the injuries has been considered life-changing or life threatening.
