Sheffield Theatres’ acclaimed revival of Michael Frayn’s political thriller Democracy has transferred to the Old Vic, where it opened to press last night (20 July 2012, previews from 15 July).

Frayn and director Paul Miller were among those enjoying the post-show party at Baltic in Waterloo. They were joined by cast members Rupert Vansittart (Hans-Dietrich Genscher), Ed Hughes (Arno Kretchmann), Aidan McArdle (Gunter Guillaume), Richard Hope (Horst Ehmke) and David Mallinson (Helmut Schmidt).

Also in attendance was politician David Steel, actor John Simm and Sheffield Theatres artistic director Daniel Evans.

A previous winner of the Evening Standard Award and the Critics Circle Best Play award, Democracy is now playing at the Old Vic through to 28 July 2012.
