Ian McKellen opened in the West End last night in the Chichester Festival Theatre production of King Lear. McKellen stars as the titular part in Jonathan Munby's production alongside Danny Webb as Gloucester, Sinead Cusack as Kent, Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Cordelia, Claire Price as Goneril and Kirsty Bushell as Regan

Patrick Stewart turned out to support McKellen at the show. The two have previously starred together in No Man's Land and Waiting for Godot and have a famous bromance.

In her four-star review of the production, Sarah Crompton called Jonathan Munby's production 'dazzling', saying that McKellen's central performance had 'magnificent control'.
