Opening night for the first show in the newly refurbished Kiln Theatre took place this week, with stars and creatives celebrating the moment.

The first play in the new season is Holy Sh!t by Alexis Zegerman, directed by the venue's artistic director Indhu Rubasingham. The play is a dark comedy about parents battling for school places.

The Kiln Theatre – formerly the Tricycle Theatre – opened its doors to the public after a two-year capital development project.

The first season also includes a musical adaptation of Zadie Smith's novel White Teeth, adapted for the stage by Stephen Sharkey (26 October to 22 December), Ishy Din's Approaching Empty (9 January to 2 February), Florian Zeller's The Son (20 February to 13 April), Inua Ellams''' The Half God of Rainfall (26 April to 17 May), Samuel Adamson's Wife (5 June to 13 July), a new revival of Sheldon Epps' Blues in the Night (22 July to 7 September) and the world premiere of Anupama Chandrasekhar's When the Crows Visit'' in Autumn 2019.
