Harry Potter and the Cursed Child casts Franc Ashman as new Hermione

John Tiffany’s production continues to play to sold-out houses at the Palace Theatre

Franc Ashman will take over from Nicola Alexis as Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the show has announced on Twitter.

In a tweet posted on Tuesday afternoon, the production confirmed that Ashman will join the cast this month, with Alexis playing her final performance on 11 July.

Ashman was most recently seen on stage in Nine Night at the National Theatre, and has other theatre credits including The Twilight Zone at the Almeida, The Royale at the Bush and Pornography at the Tricycle.

Directed by John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is written by Jack Thorne and JK Rowling and first premiered in London in 2016, going on to win the most Olivier Awards in history. The production continues the Harry Potter story, set after the conclusion of the seventh book and following Harry's relationship with his son Albus.

It features movement by Steven Hoggett, set by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music and arrangements by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, illusions and magic by Jamie Harrison, music supervision and arrangements by Martin Lowe.
