The Company Take Mack and Mabel to Greenwich

The Company, an inclusive youth theatre for musicals performing in major cities in the UK is on the way to London for the first time to expand its national profile, reach and target audience. Auditions for this production took place in London and Manchester and the show will be performed by a talented young people up to the age of 23 from all across the UK. The full cast will be announced soon.  

Mack and Mabel is from the book by Michael Stewart, with music and lyrics are by Jerry Herman, songwriter of such popular shows as Hello, Dolly! and Mame.  He is quoted as saying that he just wants to "Make the world feel good and leave audiences happily humming." 

The original 1974 Broadway production received 8 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Denis Quilley and Imelda Staunton starred in the first UK production at the Nottingham Playhouse in 1981. Since then David Soul and Janie Dee have reprised the roles on tour and at the Criterion Theatre.

‘The Company’ Music Theatre artistic team has work across the world, from the National Theatre to Singapore and engages young people as they would a professional company, producing West End standard. Their debut production was presented in Manchester in 2008 - The Rose and The Ring achieved both critical acclaim and the support of the Manchester Evening News, culminating in winning the BIZA Award and a cheque for £5,000 at the M.E.N. Theatre Awards 2008. They then went on to perform Merrily We Roll Along in 2009 and, in 2010 staged Jason Robert Brown's Parade at The Lowry, Salford and earned excellent reviews.

Mack and Mabel is at the Greenwich Theatre from 25 - 27 August.
