Aubrey & Tierney join John Simm in Sheffield Betrayal

Date: 16 March 2012

Juliet Aubrey and Colin Tierney will join the previously announced John Simm in Harold Pinter's Betrayal which is revived as the climax of Sheffield Crucible's 40th anniversary season.

Directed by Nick Bagnall, the production will feature a return to the Crucible for Life on Mars star John Simm, who played Hamlet there last year, and reunites him with Tierney who played opposite him as Horatio.

Famously played backwards in time, Betrayal traces a seven-year affair between art gallery owner Emma (Aubrey) and literary agent Jerry (Simm), the best friend of her publisher husband Robert (Tierney), from its poignant end to its first illicit kiss.

Betrayal premiered at the National Theatre in 1978, winning the Olivier Award for Best New Play.

Juliet Aubrey's theatre credits include An Oak Tree (Soho Theatre), Ivanov, Summerfolk (National Theatre), The Three Sisters and Twelfth Night (Cry Havoc).

On television, her credits include Death in Paradise, Outcasts, Five Daughters, Vera, Primeval, City of Vice, A Good Murder, Bertie & Elizabeth, The Mayor of Casterbridge and Middlemarch; and for film, Super Eruption, F, Caught in the Act, The Constant Gardner, Iris, Still Crazy, Welcome to Sarajevo, Go Now, Food of Love and Shining Through.

In addition to Hamlet for Sheffield Theatres, Colin Tierney's recent stage work includes Tartuffe (ETT), Hedda Gabler (Theatre Royal Bath and tour), The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other (NT Studio), Our Country’s Good, Ladies of Leisure (Liverpool Playhouse), Paul, Othello (National Theatre), Exiles (Young Vic), The Duchess of Malfi (RSC), and Ivanov and The Life of Galileo (Almeida Theatre).

His television credits include DCI Banks, Garrow’s Law, New Tricks, Waterloo Road, Island at War, The Vice and Cracker. He has also appeared in the films Nowhere Boy, The Ombudsman, For Zeta, Splintered and Bye Bye Baby.
