Tamara Harvey's inaugural season of work at Theatr Clwyd will open with a new production of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof starring Desmond Barrit.

The production opens 4 February and will be directed by Robert Hastie. The Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is set in Mississippi on a plantation, where Brick is celebrating his father's 65th birthday.

The rest of the cast includes Gareth David-Lloyd, Catrin Stewart and Andrew Langtree.

Alongside this, Clwyd will stage Anthony Burgess' adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac (14 April – 7 May) starring Welsh actor Steffan Rhodri. Known for his recent roles in Light Shining in Buckinghamshire at the National Theatre and The Mentalists in the West End.

Phillip Breen will direct the show, which features an ensemble of Welsh performers and new Welsh language poetry from Twm Morys.

Elsewhere the theatre will stage the regional premiere of April de Angelis' play Jumpy, in a new production directed by Lisa Spirling.

Harvey said today, "I’m thrilled to announce my first season as Artistic Director at Theatr Clwyd…It’s an exciting time for us all here at Theatr Clwyd – we look forward to building on Terry Hands’ excellent work, and to securing the company’s long term future as a vibrant hub for our community and for artists from both near and far during an uncertain time for the arts in the UK."
