The Girls announces West End closure and UK tour

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth’s musical will finish its run in July

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's musical The Girls is to end its run in the West End.

The show, which opened at the Phoenix Theatre in February after running at The Lowry and Leeds Grand, will close after six months, on 15 July.

Following the closure, the show will embark on a UK tour in August 2018 for two years.

The musical tells the true story of a Women's Institute which posed nude for a calendar to raise money. The tale was made into a film in 2003, also written by Firth.

The Girls won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Regional Production and was nominated for Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards.

The tour, which will begin on 15 August 2018, will visit 42 theatres across the United Kingdom, beginning at Leeds Grand. Dates and venues are yet to be announced.

Firth and Barlow commented: "We are delighted that more people can get a chance to see it and, we hope, will also fall in love with The Girls.

The Girls runs at the Phoenix Theatre until 15 July.
