The Musketeers and Strike star Tom Burke will star in a new revival of Friedrich Schiller's Don Carlos, it has been announced.

Directed by Gadi Roll, the production will feature Burke as Rodrigo, Marquis of Posa, and will open at the Exeter Northcott as part of their 50th-anniversary celebrations in October next year. Further casting is to be announced.

Burke, whose theatre credits include The Deep Blue Sea (NT) and Reasons to be Happy (Hampstead), said: "|Don Carlos is a play that speaks for today – its themes as relevant now as when Schiller wrote it."

Translated by Robert David MacDonald, the play was written two years before the French Revolution and exploring themes of justice, equality and freedom of expression.

Don Carlos runs at Exeter Northcott from 16 to 20 October, with previews from 11 October, then tours to Nuffield Southampton Theatres (23 October to 3 November) and Rose Theatre Kingston (6 to 17 November).
