The Play That Goes Wrong set for UK tour

Mischief Theatre’s WhatsOnStage Awards nominated play will visit seventeen venues between 21 January and 21 June 2014

WhatsOnStage Award nominee The Play That Goes Wrong will embark on a UK tour later this month, opening at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury.

The show, from Mischief Theatre, will visit a total of seventeen venues between 21 January and 21 June 2014. It is currently nominated for the 2014 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Comedy.

The production transferred to the Trafalgar Studios following a successful run at the Old Red Lion Theatre last year, as well as selling out at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2013.

Co-written by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields and directed by Mark Bell, The Play That Goes Wrong introduces the "Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society" whose production of a 1920's murder mystery doesn't quite go to plan.

Producer Kenny Wax (Top Hat) said: "A few months ago a producer friend asked me to accompany him to see The Play That Goes Wrong at the Trafalgar Studios. I was totally charmed and we offered them a deal on the spot. I should add that I have never been quite so impulsive before, but I had a real desire to help this bunch of daredevil and totally committed young actors to bring their show to a wider audience."

The Play That Goes Wrong features designs by Nigel Hook, lighting by Ric Mountjoy and the cast comprises Charlie Russell, Dave Hearn, Greg Tannahill, Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, Jonathan Sayer, Nancy Wallinger and Rob Falconer.

The tour visits Canterbury, Oxford, Bromley, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Windsor, Glasgow, Guildford, Nottingham, York, Malvern, Wolverhampton, Kingston, Northampton, Cambridge, Bath and Darlington.
