Full casting announced for RSC's spring Swan productions
Rufus Hound and David Threlfall will star in Don Quixote from February 2016
Maria Aberg will direct Christopher Marlowe's 1592 tragedy Doctor Faustus from 11 February to 4 August which will will feature Sandy Grierson (Lanark: A Life in Three Acts) and Oliver Ryan (As You Like It) sharing the roles of the embittered academic Faustus and the demon Mephistopheles, alternating the parts at each performance.
They will be joined by Will Bliss (Valdes/Good Angel), Jade Croot (Helen of Troy), John Cummins (Cornelius/Evil Angel), Ruth Everett (Scholar/Friar/Deadly Sin) Gabriel Fleary (Emperor/Gluttony/Scholar), Theo Fraser Steele (Duke/Friar/Deadly Sin), Gemma Goggin (Cardinal of Lorraine) and Natey Jones (Frederick/Scholar).
The cast will be completed by Richard Leeming (Envy/Scholar), Nicholas Lumley (Wagner/Old Man), Tom McCall (Benvolio/Friar), Joshua McCord (Martino), Bathsheba Piepe (Sloth/Scholar/Friar), Rosa Robson (Scholar) Amy Rockson (Duchess/Scholar) Timothy Speyer (Pope) and Eleanor Wyld (Lucifer/Scholar).
To mark the 400th anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes' death, Angus Jackson returns to the RSC after his highly-acclaimed production of Oppenheimer to direct Don Quixote. Newly adapted by James Fenton, the production will run from 25 February to 21 May.
Don Quixote will have music by Grant Olding and will star Shameless actor David Threlfall in the title role and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels actor Rufus Hound in his RSC debut as Quixote's faithful companion, Sancho Panza.
The full cast includes Will Bliss, John Cummins, Ruth Everett, Gabriel Fleary, Gemma Goggin, Theo Fraser Steele, Natey Jones, Richard Leeming, Nicholas Lumley, Tom McCall, Joshua McCord, Bathsheba Piepe, Rosa Robson, Amy Rockson, Timothy Speyer and Eleanor Wyld.
