Meow Meow (the stage name of Melissa Madden Gray) is an Australian-born actress and cabaret performer known for her work in international theatre, contemporary opera, and performance art. Trained at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, she has developed a distinct style of “kamikaze cabaret” that focuses on the interactive relationship between performer and audience.
Her theatre credits include leading roles such as Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Shakespeare’s Globe and La Maîtresse in the West End production of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. She has also performed as Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at the Royal Albert Hall and Jenny in The Threepenny Opera with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to traditional theatre, she creates original music-theatre works, including Apocalypse Meow and Little Match Girl, which have been presented at venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music and London’s Southbank Centre. She is a frequent guest artist with the orchestra Pink Martini and specialises in Weimar-era repertoire and French chanson.
