Gayle Rankin appeared in the second season of the record-breaking Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon (HBO). She recently starred in Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins’ series Kindred (FX), directed by Janicza Bravo.

Rankin is perhaps best known for her performance as Sheila the She-Wolf in Netflix’s hit comedy series Glow, for which she received two SAG ensemble award nominations in 2018 and 2019. She also appeared opposite Matthew Rhys in the first season of HBO’s Perry Mason.

In film, Rankin received critical acclaim for her performance in Mike Covino and Kyle Martin’s The Climb, which premiered at Cannes before its release by Sony Pictures Classics. Her other credits include Amazon’s Blow the Man Down, Her Smell opposite Elisabeth Moss, Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories, Irreplaceable You opposite Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alex Garland’s Men, and Stewart Thorndike’s Bad Things, which premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival.

On stage, Rankin earned praise for her portrayal of Ophelia opposite Oscar Isaac in Sam Gold’s production of Hamlet at the Public Theater. Her other theatre work includes Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female The Taming of the Shrew, Tony Kushner’s The Illusion, and Sam Gold’s The Mystery of Love & Sex opposite Diane Lane. She made her Broadway debut in 2014 in Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret.

Rankin is a graduate of New York City’s Juilliard School.
