About the Show

This is Black is a festival of world premiere theatre shows by four, new, exciting Black writers. The festival will explore identity, hate crime and family relationships with alternating double bills of All the Shit I Can’t Say to My Dad by Abraham Adeyemi and Blue Beneath My Skin by Macadie Amoroso, and …cake by babirye bukilwa and The Sun, The Moon, and The Stars by Dipo Baruwa-Etti. With an accompanying visual art exhibition curated by Sophia Tassew, an art director and creative who has curated a number of sell-out exhibitions with brands such as ASOS and Converse. This will feature artists from different disciplines who will make work in response to the four plays. The exhibition will run every Sunday from 11th – 25th August. As well as the plays and the exhibition, there will also be DJ sets after performances on Fridays and Saturdays going on late into the night. This festival aims to support, encourage and celebrate Black artists, and to provide a supportive fringe-like experience that existing fringe platforms do not always successfully provide to Black artists.
