An acutely emotional drama, exploring the relationships we have with our pasts, with the people who shaped us, and with those who we love but don’t always understand. Members of the estate’s first blended and tumultuous family are called back to the teenage home under the shadow of a recent loss. 10 years have gone by and the long contained resentments between the clan begin to rise, love and loyalty is tested as the “family” are forced to put burdens behind and unite. Set deep inside one of the misunderstood and left behind council estates of Salford, dripping with the banter and community spirit it’s built on and written entirely in verse and spoken word, Roots will question whether we can ever truly branch out and away from our foundations.
