Part of the BBC Proms.Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present the first ever complete performance at the Proms of Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri (‘Paradise and the Peri’). Part oratorio and part opera, a choral and orchestral cycle that seems to unfold in continuous song, the work tells the story of a Peri – child of a fallen angel and a mortal – who makes a sequence of offerings to the guardians of Paradise in an attempt to gain entry. Lucy Crowe leads an exciting international cast.
