Weymouth-based flautist Nikki Olson and Dorchester Piano Quartet’s Peter Oakes perform French flute works from the late romantic and 20th century. Poulenc’s achingly melancholy yet ultimately joyful 1957 Sonata takes centre stage – the 2nd movement described by a critic after it’s premiere as “…the best of Poulenc, and perhaps even a little better…” The programme also features Suites by Widor and Bolling; the former rich, romantic and virtuosic, the latter a frivolous and light-hearted nod to the jazz classical crossover.
