The International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival returns to its spiritual home of Buxton, the delightful spa town nestled in the centre of the beautiful Peak District. From 29 July to 12 August, the Festival will be staged in Buxton Opera House where it all began 30 years ago in 1994. Six companies will compete for the prestigious International Champions Trophy, and UNIFest, the Festival’s competition for British universities, is finally back to full strength following the pandemic. There is a festival youth production of The Pirates of Penzance and a warm welcome for Opera North Youth Company, who will bring Trial by Jury. As ever, Festival visitors will be able to enjoy Gilbert & Sullivan morning, noon and night, with a jam-packed fringe programme with morning lectures, lunchtime performances and much more. And after the curtain falls in the Opera House each evening, the doors open for the nightly Festival Club with entertainment until the early hours.
