Tim Minchin in rehearsals for Groundhog Day

Rehearsal images have been released of the cast, Tim Minchin, Matthew Warchus and Danny Rubin rehearsing the upcoming production of Groundhog Day.

The show, which opens on 16 August, is a new musical adaptation of the classic film starring Bill Murray. Australian comedian Minchin – who also penned Matilda – is composer and lyricist, while Rubin has written the book. Warchus, artistic director of the Old Vic, directs the show.

The piece follows a weatherman from Pittsburgh TV who is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney and his horrendous day begins to repeat itself.

Groundhog Day runs at the Old Vic from 16 August to 17 September.
