It’s well past spring, but the queen of Easter eggs has been seemingly sowing some seeds

Taylor Swift may be busy revealing her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, but that didn’t stop her from potentially dropping some hints about other projects on a new podcast.
Stopping by the New Heights podcast earlier this week to chat all things Showgirl with boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, Swift discussed the art of dropping easter eggs into her material to keep fans guessing and intrigued.
According to Swift, there are rules involved: ‘It’s always going to be towards music, or a musical, something I’m coming up with, something I have coming up – a plan I have coming together. Something that you don’t know I’m saying for a specific reason.”
Now, this could be an off-hand remark about a “musical”, but given that Swift had explicitly said that she peppers everything she releases with little hints and nudges (and the example she cites is her NYU honorary doctorate speech), there may be more here than meets the eye.
You can listen to the podcast below, skip to 51 minutes 45 seconds to hear the easter egg section:
Last year, the theatre world raised eyebrows when Swift trademarked the term “Female Rage: the Musical” after casually dropping the term during one of her live concerts at the Eras tour.
Her upcoming album was produced in Sweden, and reunited Swift with Max Martin (whose songs feature in & Juliet) and Shellbeck.
Swift is no stranger to musicals – she co-wrote a number and starred as Bombalurina in the film adaptation of Cats, and in the podcast, she also referenced musical theatre as being part of her inspiration for the record-breaking Eras Tour set design. Previously, the performer also revealed that she auditioned for the Les Misérables movie!
Pop star and former theatre kid, Sabrina Carpenter, is set to collaborate on the title track of the new record.
In the meantime, The Life of a Showgirl will be released on 3 October.
