The Off-Off-Broadway hit flies to London

Seagull: True Story will transfer to the Marylebone Theatre this autumn following a run at La Mama in New York earlier this year.
Directed by Alexander Molochnikov and written by Eli Rarey, the piece draws on recent events in Molochnikov’s life. A Russian theatre director, Molochnikov left Russia in 2022 after speaking out against the invasion of Ukraine. Seagull: True Story blends themes from Chekhov’s The Seagull with autobiographical material and political satire, using metatheatre, music and multimedia to explore artistic freedom, identity and displacement.
The play follows Kon, a Russian director whose production of The Seagull is censored following the invasion of Ukraine. Forced to flee to New York, he struggles to redefine himself and his work in a new cultural and political landscape.
The production features set design by Alexander Shishkin, costumes by Kristina Kharlashkina, lighting by Brian H. Scott and Sam Saliba, music by Fedor Zhuravlev, lyrics by Noize MC, and choreography by Ohad Mazor.
The production, presented by MART and Wild Yak, runs from 5 September to 11 October 2025, with press night on 9 September.
Running time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including an interval. Tickets are available through the Marylebone Theatre website
