Sadie Sink has been announced as the star and executive producer of the film adaptation of Kimberly Belflower’s play John Proctor Is the Villain. The film will be produced by Marc Platt and Tina Fey, with Belflower adapting the screenplay. Universal Pictures will distribute.

The play is set in a rural Georgia high school and examines themes of power and consent through a modern lens on Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Sink originated the role of Shelby in the stage production.

Sink will also make her West End debut in Robert Icke’s production of Romeo and Juliet at the Harold Pinter Theatre in March.

Belflower’s play will make its UK premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in London next year. The production runs from 20 March to 25 April 2026 in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs and will be directed by Tony Award-winner Danya Taymor. Judging from the timings, Sink will not be appearing in the London run.

Release dates and plans for the film are to be revealed.
