Really Useful Group partner with Chinese company to produce new version of Tell Me on a Sunday

Really Useful Group is to partner with Shanghai Media Group Live in a new initiative pairing the UK and the Chinese musical theatre industry.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's company has announced the first Chinese language and Chinese produced staging of the composer's Tell Me on a Sunday. The new version will see a modern Chinese woman moving from regional China to Shanghai.

London's Arts Education Schools have also become involved in a new project within the partnership, where tutors from the drama school will head to China to 'advance professional musical theatre talent'. The teachers will oversee an eight week course in September, while shorter courses will be available in October.

Other aims of the partnership are to develop new musical theatre content in the form of translations of existing works or new works focusing on Chinese heritage.

Lloyd Webber said: "The Really Useful Group has been bringing my music to China since 2001. Our ambition is that Chinese audiences should enjoy musical theatre productions every bit the equal in scale and quality to those in North America or Europe. Now in Shanghai Media Group we have a partner with whom we can achieve this goal."
