Rachael Stirling stars in Rattigan's Variation on a Theme at Finborough

Rachael Stirling will star in a 'rediscovery' production of Terence Rattigan’s Variation on a Theme at the Finborough Theatre next month.

The production runs from 25 February to 22 March 2014 as part of the venue's French-themed spring season.

Variation on a Theme, which hasn't been seen for over 50 years, is inspired by Alexandre Dumas' novel La Dame aux Camelias (The Lady of the Camellias).

Set amidst the glamorous and exotic society of the 1950’s French Riviera, the play revolves around the tempestuous love affair between Rose, a beautiful and worldly socialite, and Ron, a young bisexual ballet dancer with a keen eye for social advancement.

Rachael Stirling, who plays Rose, has been twice nominated for an Olivier Award. Theatre credits include The Recruiting Officer (Donmar Warehouse), An Ideal Husband (West End), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Rose Theatre, Kingston) and The Priory (Royal Court).

Variation on a Theme is directed by Michael Oakley, a former recipient of the JMK Award for Young Directors.

It's followed at the Finborough by the world premiere of a new musical based on Émile Zola’s Thérèse Raquin by Craig Adams and Nona Shepphard (25 March-19 April 2014); and the rediscovery of the 1920s French play Martine (22 April-17 May 2014), directed by Tom Littler.
